Following the unsuccessful trial of porcelain enamel M1942 canteens, the War Production Board authorized the return to using aluminum, as well as corrosion resisting ("stainless") steel (CRS). This canteen was manufactured in 1943 by the rather uncommon Rutenber Electric Co. of Marion, Indiana, and is constructed of CRS. The "I. C." post production stamping located beneath its
